Tokyo morning, 2001, 4AM
On the first morning in Japan I always wake up early.
I stay in Ikebukuro on the northern rim of the Yamanote rail line.
On this morning, looking to the southeast, the city was an early morning blue.
The navigational beacons on the tallest buildings flash at the same frequency, but are not synchronized.
They form random patterns... intersecting waves of flashing red that move across the city.
... an immense city.
